A suggestion by John van der Vliet and collectively aggreed by all those in attendance was to re-establish a club ride time, meeting place...

2012 Dove Creek Omnium Report

The Comox Valley Cycle Clubs annual stage race was enjoyed by 91 local and out of town riders who tested themselves over the 3 event weekend. The stage race featured three events; a time trial, a criterium, and a road race.

The junior U17 category was split into two separate categories to best represent the wide range of abilities at such a young age. Local cyclist Eli Simcoe-Metcalf took the win in both the time trial and the road race after taking on a huge team of riders from the Victoria Cycling Academy in junior A. In junior B local cyclist Jane Harmsworth took 3rd place overall after winning the initial time trial.

In category C out of town riders rode a great race with local riders as the heat took its toll over the three events. Local paracyclist Simon Harrington put in an impressive ride to take 1st in the criterium and tie for 2nd overall.

In category B a total of 42 cyclists competed to take top honours. Out of town riders Taylor Ellison took 1st in the road race after taking a long range solo attack. Local rider Andrew Grant took 2nd in the road race after almost catching Taylor at the line.

In category A out of town riders dominated the field as provincial team riders used their high end training and team tactics to win all three events. Local rider Doug Merrick took 3rd in the 86km road race to win the bunch sprint as the two breakaway riders fought it out for the win up ahead.

Caleb Pike-march 11

This past weekend seven riders from the club went down and raced in the Victoria Cycling Leagues "Caleb Pike" road race. Junior CVCC cyclist Jordan Duncan joined the Russ Hays cycling team this year and came second in the field sprint for the "A" race after just pipping John Van der Vliet.
Kent Duncan, Doug Merrick, and Nigel Hutcheson raced the "B" race. The field worked together very little, allowing for a MIVA rider to escape early on, Doug Merrick later soloed across, worked with him, and took 2nd in the sprint after realizing 20meters from the line that it was the finish. Kent Duncan and Nigel Hutcheson  finished in the main pack.
Kia and Isaac Van der Vliet raced in the "C" race on the tough course, they finished 1st and 4th.
All the racers dealt with hail, snow, rain, sun, and some very strong winds on this great course.

Happy New Cycling Year

Another great Comox Valley road racing year is before us.  This year we will be participating with clubs in Nanaimo and Victoria with an Island Road Race series.  So plan on doing a little travel to make this a success.  Tentatively this is the schedule :  Victoria Mar 18th, Apr 15th; Comox Valley May 6th, May 26th, Nanaimo June 16th and 17th.  You'll need a CyclingBC Citizen license instead of an Associate License to race outside of our own events.  Buy your license online at CyclingBC.  Locally we will also host our annual Ominium weekend on July 14/15 which will also be a BC Masters event.  So see you out on the road.  Ray Wagner - the Pres.
